The Arab Women Professionals Fellowship Program (AWPP)

Who: Female citizens of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.

What: Full tuition and fees, stipend for living expenses, books, supplies and equipment allowance, professional development funds, transportation and a possible internship stipend. Non-residents of Egypt also receive a monthly housing allowance, as well as a transportation and transit allowance.

When: Academic year, beginning with summer session in July/August.

Where: American University in Cairo and a summer program at Bilgi University in Istanbul.

Program length: Two academic years and summer session

Deadline to apply: Priority (January 30), regular (April 1) & late (June 1)

Description

The Arab Women Professionals Fellowship Program is co-funded by the American University in Cairo and the Open Society Foundation’s scholarship programs. The AWPP aims at providing first-rate educational opportunities to motivated women who serve the Open Society’s goals of increasing women’s participation in policymaking, governance and public life.

Successful candidates demonstrate leadership skills, have a minimum of two years relevant professional experience in community or public service and have a minimum GPA of 3.2 or a rating of gayed geddan.Applicants must also meet all the American University in Cairo's graduate admissions requirements.

The Arab Women Professionals Fellowship Program is offered in community psychology, economics, economics in international development, English and comparative literature, gender and women’s studies in the Middle East and North Africa, international and comparative education, international human rights law, journalism and mass communication, Middle East studies, migration and refugee studies, political science, sociology/anthropology, master’s of law (LLM), master’s of public administration and master’s of public policy.
