Middle East Rule of Law Program (MEROL)

Who:   Students from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Syria and Palestine.

What:   Master program scholarships, including tuition and fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses, transportation to/from the U.S. or Hungary, insurance, funds for educational materials, professional development and an intensive academic writing program before starting at the host universities.

When:   Beginning academic year

Where:   USA, Hungary, Middle East.

Program length:   Two years.

Deadline to apply:   To be announced (usually in February).

Description

The Middle East Rule of Law Program program aims to assist in the creation of a critical mass of reform-minded professionals in the Middle East working in fields crucial to the development and sustainability of open societies.

Fellowships for graduate study leading to master’s degrees are available in law (LLM), public policy/public administration, media/communications studies, gender/women’s studies, and social work. Candidates will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, professional aptitude, leadership potential, and proven commitment to open society values.

The program is administered by OSF and AMIDEAST and funded by OSF and host universities. After completing their degree, grantees must agree to return to their home country for up to two years.
